Found and old flash, scared to try it

Rooting through some of my fathers old camera equipment I found an Alfon 535 Computer Bounce flash. I've done a little reading this afternoon and I'm afraid to try it in my T1i. From what I read the voltage can be quite high on these old flashes and damage my camera. I'm also having trouble finding what the safe hot shoe voltage is for the T1i. I'm seeing 6v thrown around but since I don't have my manual I'm not sure. I'd love to use the flash and see what I can get with some vintage hardware but I don't want fry my hot shoe. Anyone know enough about these old flashes to know if I should plug it in?

If it isn't officially supported don't even try it. I've ready plenty of threads where someone has melted their camera playing this kind of roulette.
