Here are a few pics I took today of a couple :) I used a different lens and boy was that a mistake, the pictures weren't near as sharp as the regular 2 lenses that I use. I wasn't happy with them at all and I'm going to offer them a re-shoot if they aren't happy  A lot of it was user error too like cutting off limbs and whatnot :( It was sooooo effing cold it was hard to concentrate! Good thing I had my snow pants and winter boots on because most of the time I was almost waist deep in snow!!

C&C Welcome and appreciated. And by four from today I really meant five...

They don't look bad to me in terms or sharpness... what am I missing?

What was the purpose of the shoot? A "just for fun" couple's shoot, or was it an engagement type deal?

I'm not a fan of what the girl is wearing in the last three... her outfit was much cuter in the first two. I realize it was probably freezing like hell out there, but that jacket she's wearing does nothing for her. And believe me... I'm all about function over fashion... and it's not like it makes her look *bad*... but I don't think it was a good choice for a photoshoot, in my humble opinion.

Yeah it was a just for fun shoot :) She doesnt get to see him much because he's away for school and the only pictures they have together are from a camera phone. The sharpness was added in Photoshop and I usually don't do much of that, it's just the iq isn't as good as it normally is with my other lenses.

I agree about the jacket, the first two were actually the last shots of the day when she decided to take her coat off :P

I have to agree I like them, I don't see the sharpness issue, might be due to the crappy monitors here at work haha. Looks good, can't wait to see the next set.

I see no issues in sharpness in any of them, but then they are a bit small to properly judge.

1- really nice image. The black and white looks nice.
His shirt and her scarf seem to have no detail, did you blow the blacks?
Composition wise, I like the lower down angle, but would of tried to get that wet piece of road you have in the front out of the frame so that you can have a line leading the eye right to the couple. Maybe cut some head space as well...just a bit so that they are not too centered in the frame

2- Same as above. I played with my screen size and I'm thinking that having them lower on the frame and cutting the road would be nice. Give the client of variety of crops, not just the same crop in different colours. Much prefer the kiss over the awkward standing in the first shot

4- Technically, its a nice image. Sharp, I like the processing...
A bit too much jacket in the frame. Her "smile" looks forced. Also, there is a piece of roof sticking down in the upper right hand side that looks a bit odd with his head in front of it.

5- Cute idea, I like it. The blacks here seem to be nice (compared to the blacks in the first image which seemed blown). Smiles look natural, light touch of the fingers. Nicely done. The crop is a bit tight, although I can see the need to get the swing in. Did you shoot any from further out?

Thanks :)

Yeah I did a high contrast b&w in the first one because it seemed a bit soft to me and that seemed to fix it. I did purposely blow the blacks in this, I normally hate that look but I thought it worked here. I'll mess around with the crops too :)
I used my 55-200 for this shoot when I normally use either my kit lens or my 50mm so when I was zooming in to their faces there wasn't much detail so thats where I'm annoyed with the IQ.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions!!

I like to adjust blacks so a tiny portion is blown, but not the whole thing. To me, there is a big difference between really dark and blown, even if technically it's a small change

Thanks for the suggestion :) I'll give it a whirl, I think your right :)

5. Was funny because he was almost shorter then her and we wanted to make him look a bit taller but it kinda ended up with her looking taller :P
