Hi all, this is kjust my second thread here and thanks to the advise here I got to a good start:

http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/digital-discussion-q/215010-moving-dslr.html

Now, my lense collection put my camera to shame and I decided to move to FF. Considering buying 5DMKI or 5DMKII shortly.

I've tested many great lenses on my T2i and here's waht I git so far:

TAMRON 17-50MM F/2.8
CANON 24-70MM F/2.8L USM
CANON 70-200MM F/2.8L USM (non IS)
Canon Speedlite 420EX Flash

I ended up buying and selling both 50mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8 but may be considerng f/1.8 again (fell in love with it).

My goal is to upgrade to 5D and have a complete set of lens for family shots, artistic photography, portraits and travel.

Now my questions are:

1. Because I'm an amateur should I get 5DMKI or 5DMKII? I don't care much about video (especially if I keep T2i) and megapixel are plenty high now.

2. Is there a good reason to keep my T2I with Tammy on it for casual shooting and as a cheaper travel kit or should I sell it?

3. What portrait lense should I get for 5D if I really liked 50mm on my T2i?

Thanks again, a.

Most of those are questions that you should be able to answer yourself, we're not in the business here of telling you what you should do but rather giving you advice on what you could do, since you seem to know what your options are already there really isn't a lot we could do to help.

But we'll give it a go!

If you can afford the 5DMKII why skimp?

2. Is there a good reason to keep my T2I with Tammy on it for casual shooting and as a cheaper travel kit or should I sell it?

No not really

3. What portrait lense should I get for 5D if I really liked 50mm on my T2i?

Why keep the T2i in the first place?

If you budget has room for the MkII, get the MkII. If you can wait, rumours of the MkIII at the end of 2011 are starting to come out. The 7D has a great AF system compared to the MkII. The MkIII should have an even better one. But between the MkI and MkII, get the II

It is always nice to have some backup gear. So thats one reason to keep the Rebel and Tamron. Can you see yourself getting a model, going to a shoot, and having your MkII not work? Ouch. You might be able to reschedule, its not like shooting a wedding or other event...however, if you are into portraits, I'd buy the MkII and sell the Rebel and Tamron and buy some lighting gear, new flash, radio triggers and so on.

The 85mm is a nice portrait lens on a full frame. But you have a 70-200 that covers the 85mm (although with a slightly slower aperture). I love the 70-200 around the 110mm on my 7D for portraits. But if you really liked the 50, getting the 85 f/1.8 (or the f/1.2 :D ) would be great replacement for the feel of the 50 on the T2i

Thank you. That's the kinda advise I needed.

Can't wait til the end of 2011. Luckily one can always sell good old gear and buy the newer without losing much.

Was thinking of 85 f/1.8 but does 50mm feel on 5D?

I haven't shot much with a full frame and a 50 (just once, a 1D and 50 f/1.4) but it can work very well. Its really a personal choice though, some like, some dont. But for portraits, it might be slightly wide for my tastes.

Or best thing is hold off on the 50 and 85 and just get the full frame camera. then force yourself to shoot with that 24-70 at 50mm and then with the 70-200 at 85. Or... rent them and try them out.
