I personally don't trust refurbished gear because it was sent in for work for a reason... If I didn't get my asking price or somewhere reasonably close to it, then I was prepared to hold on to the D7000.... GLWS

Well that's not true at all. Many refurbished items are not refurbished because they needed work. Many are simply returns, floor models, or didn't pass inspection not because of the camera but the box could have been missing a manual or something.

Having said that, you wouldn't trust factory refurbished gear with a warranty that's been restored to retail condition, but you would trust a stranger on the internet?
I have about 6 things that are refurbished, never had an issue yet.

Everyone has their own opinion... I personally have had a refurb D90 that I had to return and a refurb D7K that I had to return... Each time I got a refund and spent the money for NIB model.. I'd rather have peace of mind for my hard earned money.. Also, when you buy refurbished models, not every vendor selling will tell you what it was sent in for to begin with...

Regardless, if anyone is looking for a deal or wanted to point out price points they can PM the OP... I think there are way too many "price police" on duty... That goes for every forum... Rules almost always say something to the tune of "if you don't like the price, move on" but nothing ever happens when people say "we'll I can get it here for $200 cheaper so I'm gonna offer you $400 less"... Just a little rant... Didn't mean to stir the pot...

Members look out for each other here in the Buy and Sell forum, but there is no rule that says you can't specify that prices are high/low. As for your D90 and D7K, you bought them, had an issue, and returned them. Do you really think that you are just going to be able to "return" a camera you buy from a random person on the internet for a refund if you have an issue? Think about what you are saying for a second. You are recommending someone keep their used camera price, above the price of a factory refurbished camera with a warranty that if you have issues you can safely return.

$750 is reasonable for a camera that's had no issues and still under warranty so in this particular case you're still covered... More often than not, some people can't afford to take a loss that others could when re-selling gear... So will they try to recoup as much as they can out of it? Sure... Is it illegal? Not at all...

I just feel that if you like the price somewhere else then go buy it from there... If you want to suggest something to the seller then feel free to PM them... I just always thought of it as common courtesy... But then again thats just me... Sorry to get off track OP...

How do you know the camera has not had issues? How do you know that it is still under warranty?
Nothing against the OP - but you are taking more of a chance buying from a stranger online, than you are buying at a retailer. Hence why the price will
be lower.
The fact of the matter is, there is actually market value for items. If an item is being sold refurbished at a dependable retailer (adorama)
for one price, then the private market value is going to be less.

Could he sell it for $750? Probably, but to not educate the OP as well as viewing members would be a bit deceitful.

A refurb can be something bought and returned with under 100 shots. Technically Nikon has to re sell this as a refurb. Once they certify it, everything is replaced. Id rather have this because this camera is now inspected by a Nikon tech as opposed to a possible mis manufacturer from the assembly line.

And if you decide to make the call to buy used gear then you're making a choice to trust the seller... All I'm saying is, if you don't like the price and would prefer to buy refurb, then go ahead!

Thanks, Helitech. I am taking offers so someone that thinks that $750 is too much can always throw out a price. Worst I can say is no.

The plus side of refurbished gear is every single aspect of the camera is exhaustively checked by the company. Conversely, maybe only 1 in 100 new cameras off the factory line would receive the same check.

A camera can become a refurb for a variety of reasons. Most often it's consumers buying and returning the camera after only a few clicks.

So, you get a factory certified and tested camera. Usually for hundreds less than retail price. Comes with a WARRANTY. And it's just as good as new. I'm not seeing the problem here.

Don't be afraid of a disagreement. There's no pissing contest either. I'm telling you why I disagree with you, and you are telling me why you disagree with me. No harm no foul.

People are looking in the Buy and Sell forum for many reasons, but if they are looking for strictly used equipment, then they are looking for used prices.
A factory refurbished item's market value will always be higher than the same item being sold by a private seller.
I'm more than sure the OP is a trustworthy guy, but the fact remains that private party resale value will always be lower than factory refurbished items because of potential risks involved and the lack of guarantees.
It's just the way it is.
