dude those first two are killer. out of curiosity, what were the exposure times? what camera are you using now too, i forgot.

As you know I love that first photo. The second one is killer too. I love that building. I like the way you captured the light that shoots out the top in that last photo. What side of town were you on when you shot it?

Very nice night shots! I have only tried this a couple of times and hope I can eventually get something of this caliber. I am curious about the 3rd shot, were those building framed in light like that or did you do that somehow??? Dig that last shot the best I think!! : )

Wicked cool! Love the first one, and I really like the overexposure on the last. Is that building lit up like that every night?

Spiral, I'm not sure where Robert went, but yes, that building is lit up like that every night. I think it's the Pier 1 building. Anyway it's really beautiful.

Thanks man! These were taken with ISO 200/5.6/3 sec ss/about 200mm. I have a Canon Rebel GII 35mm.

Cindy, I think that one is my favorite as well. As the sun was going down it was reeeaaaally hazy out, and that just sucked all the golden light out of everything, which was a disappointment. But then after it went down the haze really picked up the light from the buildings. These were shot on the west side of downtown, from the bank of the Trinity River. It's a spot that jerrykr from TexasPF showed us.

Thank you!! The buildings are lit up like that every night. Here in Texas I guess they are really proud of their downtowns, because Dallas is twice as bright!! Although, I don't know any spots I'd been caught after dark taking those skylines from.

Yah, the Pier One building is a pretty cool building. I cant' imagine what their electric bill is like lit up every night like this!

I thought about sending some in, but the guys I went out with that night consistently get better shots than this IMO, so I think I'll keep working on it.

I think I'd like to reshoot with some 100 film, or 50 if I can find some. Also sometime when the Radio Shack building is lit up as well. (you can see the gap in in the first shot where it out to be shining pretty.)

I really appreciate the comments ya'll (how's that for some Texan for ya!). I hadn't been out shooting in over a month before I shot these. And in the three weeks previous to this I: closed on a house, got married, and had 9 tests in 8 school days. Obviously I was more than stressed, and this night out shooting was such a blessing to me. It's tough to relay that kind of emotion in a skyline shot though I guess!! LOL

I have a roll in the camera now that I'm really excited about. My daughter fell asleep the other night posed so beautifully, so i caught some macro's of her face, eyes and eyelashes. Now if I can find something to fill the other 14 frames LOL!!!

Robert..........you shot these on FILM? Holy crap! I assumed digital. These are from a scan for chiminey???? No wonder you are so proud!!!! They must look WAY kickin' on the actual print! And another thing....did you do any post work at all?

Yah, they are on film. :blushing: Some of us still live in the dark ages.

The only post work I did once they were digital was 1 step of sharpening, and one step of edge preserving smooth to help combat the jpg/compression noise.

The last one I over exposed a full stop to try and blow out the pier 1 building to keep it from dominating the frame w/ the star filter, while still keeping the stars on the street lamps. It only kind of worked.
