Hello All,

I'm just checking about the # of exposures for some film that I just bought. It's Fujichrome Velvia RVP 120 IS0 50/18°. Is the 18° the number of exposures that are on the film?

Thanks,

AC

12 exposures for 6 x 6. The 18° is the logarithmic ISO speed, and it is too early (not enough coffee) to get into that.

I think that 18 is the DIN speed...Deutsche Industrie Nacional ( or some such). DIN was never popular in North America.

120 film gives 12 exposures when the format is nominally 6x6 cm (actually closer to 58mmx 58mm; 15 when the pictures are nominally 4.5x6 cm aka 645, and I think 8 when the picture size is 6x9 cm.

120 film is often used in cameras that make negatives or slides in 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7,6x8, 6x9, 6x17 and 6x19 sizes, and possibly others. 120 film does not make a standard number of exposures; the number of exposures available when shooting 120 film is a function of the specific camera's capture format dimensions.

Awesome, thanks.

The current ISO standard allow films to be tested either by the ASA/BS method or the DIN (German) method, and the IS0 50/18° is a combination of both.

B&W films actually have two ISO speeds one for Daylight the other for Tungsten although the latter is rarely published these days. Confusingly then old EFKE (Adox) films were named by first their Tungsten DIN speeds like 35mm Kb14, , later renamed to the Tungsten ASA speed Kb25, the daylight speed as faster 50 ASA.

Ilford Ortho film still has the Tungsten & Daylight speeds in the data-sheet.
