Fun with grids

Its the first time I've gotten to play with my new barn door and grids! We were lucky enough to have 5 children under 6 running up and downstairs interrupting the photo shoot, it sure made things fun. hehehe I am drawn to the first one for some reason, though I am sure plenty of people will have reason to disagree…

I like the second one the best, too. I'm not sold on the floating hand thing though, I'm wondering if a lighter coloured coat would have worked better so that you can see her arm a bit better, or whether it would have just ruined the mood of the shots.

Thanks for all the feedback! I definitely agree that the floating hand is a problem. I didn't like the background so I had removed it. Here is an edit with it put back in…The arm is still obviously dark, but there is some separation from BG with the background put back in….Thoughts?

IMO- not enough separation for the hand to look good.

get away from the BG, then move light closer to subject, add rim for separation.

With a grid, dending on the space you have it doesn't really matter. Just angle the grid more away from the background. Cool shots! Maybe just have her put the floating hand on her leg too.

Good idea! This was just a practice shoot to test my lights. were gonna do a "real" one soon I will definitely try that pose!
