Fun with my 50mm 1.8

It's fun to "play" with the 50mm 1.8, isn't it?
Too bad that at wide open DOF is so shallow ... you missed the focus on his eyes in the second photo.
Ah well, you can try again - what with this cutest of all models, right?

I think you missed the focus on the eyes in both. I like the mixture of textures and colours in these photos. The pacifier seems to cover too much of baby's face, but maybe it would start crying if you removed it? There's a distracting bit of basket in #2, also. I'd try this one again as it's an interesting and unusual choice of elements.

I think some gesture to the 3rds might help, too.

yeah he is a sqirmer! moving all around so i may have missed the focus for sure. I actually hate the pacifier in the mouth, but like you said he would start freaking out if i took it out haha.

yeah I have grown to learn this, I have been shooting at 2.8 or higher when i can.

I would not take a shot with a pacifier stuck in the face. When I opened this thread, I said out loud, oh I hate this & my wife came over to see & agreed.

Newborn photography is a matter of an arsenal full of tricks to get the shots with no pacifier AND a peaceful baby.
The little guy in these is really orange/red and you have missed focus.
In LR it is easy to get that sweet clean look to baby skin if you go into the HSL panel and use the luminance sliders bumping the orange up a good bit. Sometimes you have to bump the reds as well

this is my own son, i would never shoot a newborn with a sucker in his mouth for a client, just having fun.

First shot is sweet. Second shot technically leaves a bit to be desired, but hey this is your son, doesn't have to be a perfect picture. He will be running away from you before you know it.... enjoy every moment now.

For babies, try to avoid shooting them from toe to head (like number 2), you usually end up getting an "up the nose" shot that's not as flattering as shooting from the head- like so:

I could give you a tip lens. Try to shoot with 2.8 or above. At 1.8 you will never get a sharp image because the lens can't get it not you. I tried 2.5 and it's still sharp but 2.8 is better. 1.8 does not work on people.
