Fx vs dx

Does anyone know that when taking a picture vertically with an fx camera will the picture fill the entire frame unlike that of dx?

Sorry, but could you rephrase that question into a more intelligible thought? Whether your shooting an FX or a DX camera body, the entire sensor is being used.

Okay, for the smartasses out there, if you shoot a DX lens on an FX body, the entire sensor is not being used for the most part. Certain DX zoom lenses will be compatible to an FX sensor within parts of their zoom range, Nikkor 12-24mm comes to mind.

What about the smartasses now here to comment that regardless of whether there is a lens directing light onto it the whole sensor is being used in the sense that it is recording data, be it the picture or black...

Intelligible ! Let's play nice Again if you are taking a picture with your full frame camera on it's vertical axis will the picture fill the entire frame. I own a dx d7000 and vertical pictures have. Space bars on either side. Is this also the case with full frame cameras?

That doesn't make sense. Are you talking about the LCD? Or when you're viewing them on your computer? Are the black bars on the left and right? Or on the top and bottom?

It's a very sparse question for use to establish exactly what you mean. I'd reckon to guess that's why Kundalini responded in that manner.

Could this be a result of your photo viewer of choice? Does it display in only a certain aspect ratio that may be different than your native file size?

No they don't. The way you preview them has vertical space bars on either side. Page 200 of the manual will detail the preview options on your camera. There's a function called "rotate tall" which rotates pictures you take in portrait so that they look vertical when the camera is horizontal. Turn that off, no more black bars.

Regardless of what you do your camera will take photos 4928x3264 (width x height) in size. The only difference is that the Rotation setting in the ExIF data is set if you hold your camera in portrait mode so that software on your computer knows that you don't want to bend your neck sideways to view the picture.

To answer your original question, yes FX will fill the entire frame, but this is not unlike DX, it's just a setting applied or rather an understanding of the principles of a digital picture that you are missing.
