:aiwebs_016: Wow that's a lot a geese. Had to be cool to watch.

It was really cool Hunter. There were Sandhill Cranes in nearby fields but they were not cooperative. My understanding is they create a boom when they take off simultaneously. Photography bucket list.

That recording crazy. i'm assuming it was well worth the trip? Any tips for a fellow So Californian? Maybe I'll make a run down there.

Indeed. Give it a full 2 days so you can take your time. Plenty of camping opportunities at least on the East side where I spent all my time.

I started at North Shore where there is a visitor center. Watch the short video presentation about the history of the Sea. Be prepared to see lots and lots of dead fish on the shore. It's smelly, but bearable. North Shore had pretty much the typical shorebirds; White & Brown Pelicans, Stilts, Gulls, Grebes etc.

If you enjoy street and urban decay photography, Bombay Beach just south of North Shore would provide great subject matter. I Went to California's Post-Apocalyptic Beach Town | VICE | United States

The area where the large gatherings of geese, cranes, gulls, cormorants....were at the south end of Sonny Bono Salton Sea. There is another visitor center there and they can direct you to the Unit 1 area that has an overlook platform.

Prior to my trip, I was told that December/January may have been an even better time to go. For a wildlife/birder photographer, I think it's an at least twice a year destination. I will definitely go again in the Spring.
