Gila Wood Pecker

[vipgraphx]

I think this is a Gila Wood Pecker. I was out washing the wife's car this morning and when I got back I heard some birds peeps. I looked up at the cactus and notice some baby wood peckers. I went inside and got my camera out and when I got back the mama was there feeding them. I was able to get a few shots but every time I tried to get closer she flew away.

This was shot with the 70-200 vrII @200mm VR on

Vip, nice image. If anything I would crop out about half of the space above Momma's head. Makes for a much stronger over all presentation.

Very nice capture. I would crop it like this.

Thanks, I never do any wildlife photography and this was actually my first attempt. I mainly shoot landscape and portrait. When I heard the baby birds and saw that would pecker ( I can not stand because its messing up my house ) I had to try to take a picture. I was hoping to capture the mama feeding the baby. I was able to get the mama feeding the baby but she was half way in the whole and you could not see what was going on so I decided not to post that shot.

VIP, your crop is just that much stronger of a image. Nicely done.
