It sounds like your problem is that you are trying to simplify a complex process. Its like asking, "Can anyone show me a tutorial on how to build a house".... You can find tutorials on how to install tile floor, or how to hang a door, but its not practical to ask for a tutorial on such a complex subject.

You need to focus on one subject. There are a TON of youtube tutorials on specific subjects, like "brighten eyes" or "soften skin tones"... Post processing is such a complex subject that it simply isn't possible to create a GOOD tutorial on how to do the whole thing.

Narrow down what it is exactly you want to learn about, and search from there.

i used gimp for about a year. and the best tutes i found were on youtube. search particular information. if you want to know how to clone, search for that.. if you want to learn how to mask, searc that. you can also do TONS of the same things in gimp in PSE.. so a lot of those tutes you can use for gimp too. it's all about playing really.

Just downloaded gimp and was wondering where to start. Perfect Post at a perfect time.

I believe the first thing you need to do is find out what are the typical processes that you can to do with your photos.

Go here and take a look at the section "Workflow and Post Processing". Once you learn that, try to apply it with GIMP.

Okay yes , I should have made myself a little clearer sorry! I want to start with softening skin tones . That would be a good start. Thanks to all of you .

One thing for more advanced image manipulation than what is offered by default for GIMP: download the GIMP FX Foundry GIMP FX Foundry

This is a great toolkit with plenty of extra plugins/scripts that allows you to manipulate photos with ease.
