Photos NOT OK to edit
Going back to school at 37 years old .. lol ..

I have decided to go to the AI of Pittsburgh .. its all online .. and i have 2 options .. and wanted to get your feed back ..

1) I go for my Associates

2) go for my bachelors

Both will be in Photography .. But is it really worth it?

To what end? What is your current education?

My gut instinct is to say no. Have you ever taken online courses before? I have, and think they are a joke. No face to face time with the professor, no hands on learning, no way for the professor to verify the student that is enrolled is actually doing the work.... etc. etc. etc. There are a thousand and one reasons to go to a brick and mortar school instead of an online one.

Also, if your end goal is to start a photography business, you are almost certainly better of getting a degree in business over photography.

no, not going to start a business at this point. I want to turn my hobby into a passion and put it to work. I would love to work with local photographers doing product photography, portraits and what ever else comes down the line.

To be honest, I would try to start there. You would more than likely learn more there than you ever would at intrawebz academy.

Just my humble .02

I worked with someone who graduated from AI Pitt and she was very disapointed with their photography program. The problem is not all AI's are alike. Pitt has the rep of having the worst photography program but the best in interior design.

After a lifetime in Retail Management I've had enough. Tired of longer hours and lower pay. I thought about getting a photography degree but it really limited my opportunities. In my case I have an Associates in Business Management that will allow credits to transfer to the 4 year I plan on attending. There's an Art Institute of Kansas City but extremely expensive and not necessarily on line. I've been admitted to UMKC and plan to get a dual Bachelors in Studio Art and Art History. Partner these with my Business degree I look to leverage a Directorship in the Art field or Executive Management of a studio company whether it be Art, Graphic Arts or photography. Depending where I am in 5 years I may decide to go for my Masters.
I would love to just stay in Academia and as far away as I can from retail.
btw, I'm 48.
I think a Bachelors in Photography will get you an upper management position in a company. To just be a photographer I think its overkill.
Good Luck in your journey.
