Going to the beach..salt and sea spray.

Any tips on keeping the lens clean? And what should i use to clean it with anyway?

For that situation, I just use a micro-cloth. The kind that's good for glasses. Wipe often, in circular motions, and gently. A liquid cleaning solution can be good to use occasionally to get rid of the salts on the lens. If you ave a pop-up flash, taping over the cracks with PVC tape (electrical tape works) can help to keep out water.
