Good budget walk-around lens

Hey,
The only lens I have right now is a Sigma 70mm EX DG Macro with my Canon 50D. I'm looking for a good budget walk-around lens. I'm looking at the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 OS HSM for $419 on Amazon. I'm trying to spend at most $500. Any suggestions?

I've been looking into the 17-70 lately too! Right now I have the 17-85, and it's a great lens! Just not the best in low light, but I would recommend it if lighting isn't an issue.
