Good Canon starting camera?

Hey everybody, My name is Dan, I'm 17 and I am all new to the photography industry. I've been around in technology for a while purely out of interest and saw that photography is quite a large share in media so I really wanted to give it a go.

Taking part, I'd want to focus on mainly photography of transportation such as aircraft, but more specifically, trains. Before you ask, Yes, I like trains. And yes, I trainspot aswell as planespot.

Anyway, I was looking at the Canon 500D as recommended by quite a few friends as being a great starting camera? I am going to be putting in a lot of time and effort once I get a camera, but I literally know nothing about DSLR cameras and all these fancy features etc. and whether or not this is even a good camera?

My first Canon was an EOS 100 20 years ago ... followed by a 5D and a 5D II later. So I cannot give good advice here

Where in the UK are you based? Been a Devon-person myself some time ago

T2i or T3i. The only difference is that the T3i has a swivel screen (I think?) and it has some different options for video. They both use the same sensor.

I suggest these because they have the best sensor of the entry-level DSLRs, and they also record video. Regardless of whether the video matters to you or not, they are just plain better than the T1i, XSi, T3.

Even if you don't need all of the features, it's still just as basic as the other three I listed, but it gives you room to grow.

The only advice I can give is do your homework. I wish I would have researched before I bought my first DSLR. I just wish I would have purchased a little better camera than I did. As now I am buying another camera after learning more about other camera models. Good luck in your purchase.

This is great advice! I'd say in terms of "bang vs buck," those two are your best choices. I'm biased though, given that I'm a T2i fangirl lol
