Good choice?

Thank you for your advice Zaphod. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the L lens. If need be, I can always get a 300mm prime eventually. I'll go to some camera shops tomorrow or Saterday and try them out.

@usayit Thanks for this! I'll ask at the camera shop when I go. I'll clean the contacts now. I'll probably get the L lens even if I fix this - afterall, it would probably be better - right?

I just got the lens today, and it is AWESOME!

The picture in the viewfinder is very nice, and the colours and contrast I am seeing are just astounding. I can't wait to get out there and take more pictures! I'm going to start doing free photoshoots for local girls to get my name out and get some experience. This lens is going to be quite an asset as I further my photography journey.

Thanks for the advice, I'm so looking forward to using one, and then probably buying one! Though it's now between this and a 300mm prime Most likely the 70-200mm.

EDITEDIT:

Urgh, after reading some reviews - I'm tempted to save up double price and either get the f/2.8 version or the f/4 with IS. Is it wourth paying double? Although - I've heard they're much heavier. It's the lens cap + tripod ring I'm also uncertain about. I don't use a tripod too much - but if I have to I'll use it more.
