What's new

Got into photography, 1200$ to spend, what get?

thanks marc..im most likley going with that... i dont wana start investing in multiple lens till i figure out what exactly i want to shoot

Can you tell me where your finding the 80-200 for 400? i checked couldnt find it.
Is the d90 much better then the 80?

oh ebay.. can you link me to item

my guess is that the 80-200 version he\she is referring to is the older single ring one. I have not seen them priced that low, but I have not really been searching either.

I prefer the Sigma because it is much wider. 8mm on a DX would be equal to a 12mm lens on a FX body. I do prefer the build quality and larger aperture of the Tokina though.

Single ring, It's a great lens, only a tiny bit slower focus then the dual ring--otherwise identical optics.

They sell all the time on ebay for $300-500 depending on condition. $400 would be a good deal on a D version in good condition, but I've seen them sell for that low. The non-"D" versions routinely sell for well under $400--they're quality lenses as well.

I love my Tokina 11-16mm. See sample of shots taken with it here: What draws attention in a glamour photograph? | Cultured Woman, LLC

If anyone has used the Sigma 8-16, love to see the results.

As for our friends question, if you do not have a camera, buy a used Nikon D90 and a used Nikon 18-200mm zoom. Most pictures taken on this site were shot using these: Glamour Photography Scottsdale Phoenix Arizona

Only one very wide lense will leave you kinda crippled in range. The 18-200 will give you a great idea of which direction you really care to expand ur shooting.

Is great place to start shooting.

Do not buy the D90 new, is already obsolete, replaced by the D7000, which is out of your budget.

In a year or two, sell ur D90, and buy something else, or you may find the D90 is fine for you. It is quite a nice camera.

If you can't get the 18-200 in ur budget, and I think you can, you can pick up a 18-55 and a 55-200 VR zooms for about $250-300 used for the pair. They will still give you ideas on which direction you keep picking in your photography.
