Get a D90 kit and save the $300 for after you get some use and know what else you might want to add to the kit.

was thinkin of d90..and i have taken a liking to street/like big citys, and landscape

would i be able to fit an alright lens in a 1200 budget with a d90..i could up 1300

I bought a D90 Kit with a 18 - 105mm lens. Its a great camera to get started with.

If you are only wanting to do cityscapes and landscapes, you'll likely be looking at a Ultra Wide Angle lens. You can get the D90 Body for around $800 or even less if you buy used. You can get the Tokina 11-16mm for $600 new or a little less used. One of the best general purpose lenses is the 16-85 VR... you get a little wider than the kit lens, but overall the 16-85 is sharper than a kit lens and built much better. The 16-85 is around $620 new and can be found around $450 used.

Was looking at the tokina 11-16..though its wide angle.. would it work good still as a general purpose everything lens? i just wana focus on street/landscape

I would avoid spending too much on the body, the lenses are a better investment.

A nikon D80 cost only around $350 used, leaving you enough left over for a quality lens kit.

Here's an GREAT! kit in your budget:

D80 body: $350
80-200mm f2.8 af-d: $400 (pro quality zoom/telephoto)
35mm f1.8 af-s: $200 (everyday "normal" lens, great for low light and general use)
SB-600 flash: $190

All prices are based on going rates on ebay. Don't worry about buying used, nikon gear is very well made and you are very protected on ebay from bad sellers--if you end up buying something broken, you will get your $$ back!

No it's WAY to wide for general purpose.

Can you tell me where your finding the 80-200 for 400? i checked couldnt find it.
Is the d90 much better then the 80?

oh ebay.. can you link me to item

I think D90 with a kit lens is a good start.

That is what I started with 1½ year ago. I learned what I wanted to do after (wildlife) and then bought my glass in consequence of this. It makes your life easier on the long run and avoid regret of going a way you don't want. The 18-200mm VR II is a very convenient lens, not very sharp, but an excellent learning tool on many focal length. I strongly recommend!
