I like #2 and 3 better... But if you had a slightly deeper DoF I think it would really help.

The 1st one is great. You got the perfect amount of dof in this one. The 1st is definitely my favorite. The 2nd one doesn't really do it for me, it's nice that his eyes are in focus, but the crack in the wood takes away from the image, and the dof is too shallow imo. Although the dof is just as shallow in the 3rd, I prefer this image because the part of the grasshopper that is in focus takes up more of the frame.

Not much hope for more DOF as I was shooting @ f11 hand held & needed to get some shutter speed.

What are 15mm and 25mm tube?

Extension tubes that go between the camera & lens to provide greater magnification.
