Great books for a beginner

So much for spending the time productively by doing a forum and internet search.

With that kind of 'spoon feed me' attitude the OP will never learn how to do photography.

The above suggestions are all good. They do, however, focus more on the technical aspects... Something which may or may not be as beneficial to someone who doesn't have at least some prior knowledge.

I still believe Scott Kelby's books are the best ones to start with. He breaks down the terms in ways you will be able to easily understand. You can buy the whole set of 3 or you can buy them on at a time.

i actually was bored at work yesterday and read the above mentioned vol 1 and Amazon.com: Improve Your Photography: How Budding Photographers Can Get Pro Results eBook: Jim Harmer: Kindle Store. i found both to be incredibly underwhelming. unless you camera know how stops at "how do you turn this thing on" you'd be better served with the other books.
