Green Dot on Image. What causes this???

What causes this green dot? I had this happen before when taking a sunset,and now again when this one of the moon. I took others of the moon this same night and it didn't appear.

Flare.

Thank you... I have heard of lens flare but have but until now hadn't experienced it. I was next bright street lights which was probably the culprit. Would a lens hood have helped to prevent this?

In my opinion, a hood is always a good idea.

I doubt a hood would have helped in this case. They're only good for when the potential source of flare is outside the VOF of the lens. In this case, it's almost smack-dab in the middle.

Besides: what flare?

Its the reflection of the moon being projected by the sensor. There are filters that prevent this.
