Alright I am just about to make my entrance into the DSLR scene. I am also an old BMW enthusiast, I find them and then attempt to restore them, I am just praying that photography is not nearly as cutthroat and plain cruel as the E30 scene lol. I can see it now, Canon vs Nikon, B&W vs SEPIA. I have posted 1 other time and am in the midst of deciding between the canon T4i or the Nikon 3200, while at the same time trying to see if there is another contender which has yet to appear and will appear after i have made up my mind and bought one of the first two. I want to ask, if I do buy one of the entry slr's how long on average with a dedicated mind , body and soul will it take to outgrow on average?

It's really a matter of where you want to be and what you want to do. As far as outgrowing your gear, your biggest limiter is going to be your lenses.

Most modern lenses will do a good job from f5.6 to f11 or so so long as you technique is sound- iow keeping camera shake to a minimum and your shutter speed far enough up.

Do your due diligence and you'll be alright.

Thank you for the keyboard diagnosis, my question mark has also seemed a little out of sorts, will keep my eye out for anything strange, much appreciated. I also need to thank you as i now have a time span to work with and can save accordingly.
To the others ty for the input. I guess I need to make up my mind regarding the T4i vs the D3200, hopefully with more help from the friendly side of the site. I have the money, just need enough input and research to justify my decision. If anyone else can point me towards another camera in this price range that is equal or superior, please do. Thanks for the time.

Are you opposed to a used camera? You can find some other slightly older models for less money and spend the difference on nicer glass

I am not opposed to a used camera and if it meant i was better off in the long run, no problem. Just which used one to go with, i had not even considered it prior to this.

Well THAT depends purely on your actual budget and what exactly you want to do with it.

I am looking at about a $600 budget. I am looking at getting into macro and also landscapes/nature. I live on the shores of lake huron so no shortage of beauty. It will also be used to get pics of my beautiful family of course.
