Aye Mates,
JACKSON, a Labrador Retriever bred of select British field performance bloodlines, started training with me on 1/3/2019 at the age of 3 months, along with his owner / handler Deb. It has been grand seeing JACKSON and Deb grow together in working as a team on their newly acquired skills. JACKSON earned an AKC Junior Hunter Title after 9 months of training and participating in hunt tests held at the AKC Junior Hunter stakes level, his performance having been very strong in every hunt test he has entered to date,

TTF JACKSON LAD O' CLOONFINISH JH ~ Call name "JACKSON", is seen with his four qualifying AKC Junior Hunter awards. JACKSON will be moving onward to run in both HRC and AKC Hunt Tests at more advanced levels in 2020.

On Retrieve ~ Gun dog trainee JACKSON is seen returning on the retrieve of a pheasant during a training session focused on practical application of acquired field skills held yesterday afternoon.

JACKSON has learned to mark well the flight of birds flushed into the air from plots of cover. JACKSON is nicely demonstrating the SIT upon hearing the shot of a gun and to remain seated until given a release command. JACKSON was worked with more advanced retrievers TRAD and MAC yesterday as a matter of learning to quarter in the field in search for bird scent to make location and flush of game birds whilst hunting the uplands. JACKSON has developed a superb soft mouthed retrieve of game and makes presentation to hand of game birds retrieved in classic style. An athletic and stylish retriever, JACKSON exhibits great bird drive whilst working afield. JACKSON'S self confidence and motivation is consistently increasing and he is a true joy to watch as he develops more complex skill sets during training.

Currently, JACKSON is working on 3 directional casting skills so that he will eventually become competent in handling to blind retrieves (birds that he has not see fall), and being sent to the location of such birds by hand and whistle signals given him by his handler. JACKSON will be learning to handle to blind retrieves on both land and water. JACKSON is also working on skills related to "honoring" another working dog - that being to remain at a steady SIT with his handler whilst not interfering with another working dog being handled in close proximity. As well, JACKSON is learning to handle "diversion birds", those being a bird launched and falling to within close proximity to himself as he is retiring with a bird on retrieve. He is required to remain on task and not drop the bird he is retrieving to switch to the falling "diversion" bird, that being grounds for disqualification. We are also working JACKSON on "walk ups" where he is required to walk off-lead at heel alongside his handler and will see a bird simultaneously launched and fall to a gunshot. The retriever is required to remain steady and not to break from his handler's side until sent by command to make retrieve of the bird launched for the "walk-up).

Lastly, JACKSON is continuing to work on the ongoing development of skills related to multiple marked retrieves (seeing up to three birds launched and fall to different locations) then subsequently being sent to make retrieve of each of those birds successively as sent to by the handler.

The jump in skill levels demanded to move from the AKC Junior Hunter level to competency at the AKC Senior Hunter level is a challenging leap in terms of concepts that must be understood and skills that must be learned. All of these skills are required to be solidly performed on both land and water. JACKSON is a very nice retriever and now at just 13 months old demonstrates great potential both as a K9 Hunt Test athlete and as a gun dog trainee.

When not training, hunt testing, or hunting for birds, JACKSON is a wonderful companion to Deb's family in their home. JACKSON is a very well socialized Labrador Retriever and is a joy to spend time with.

TTF JACKSON LAD O' CLOONFINISH JH is out of a breeding conducted under the selective breeding program of Haynes and Colleen Floyd of DOUBLE TT BRITISH KENNELS located in Sylvia, Kansas.

I look forward to continuing my work as the primary trainer for JACKSON.

Cheers,
THE DOG WHISTLER ☘️
