I see a fence. Some sort of sanctuary?

No sanctuary - we live on seven acres of woodland surrounded by more acreage and we see an abundance of wildlife. The fence is the remnants of an area where a cabin once stood. We have bird houses and feeders all around the property and the deer, squirrels, turkeys and occasional bear will rob all the sunflower seeds and bird feed.

Cool. My grandfather had 100 acres in rural upstate NY and I spent a good part of my childhood there with him during the summers.
So is the deer tame or just used to your presence?

Hopefully just used to our presence. We really don't try any attempts at taming them so as to give them a fair chance at surviving hunting season. Our property is located on the edge of what West Virginia calls a homeowner's association. (Virginia calls them property owner's associations). On our SE side an elderly lady which lives locally owns 1400 acres of prime woodland. Her son-in-law manages the property and during the two week deer season every year about eight or nine people hunt there. Before the association got too full of residents our nieghbor to the NW would hunt on his property. One hunting season about 15 years ago my wife was filling the bird feeders out front and a local buck (small six pointer - somewhat tame) got so close she reached out and touched one of his antlers. He then wondered off my nieghbor's way and she heard a shot. It was him. Sounds cruel but that is what conservation is all about. Right now we actually have too many does. Then there is Limpy, the resident yearling I featured on here a while back that has the broken right hind ankle. She is looking kinda thin and her ankle doesn't look good either. I'm thinking, come winter, I might have to "put her down". Time will tell. But yea, it is pretty cool being able to sit back and watch all this wildlife come around! Thanks for asking @RVT1K!
