Has anyone accidental drop your camera?

My old man dropped his d50 down the basement stairs...body and attached kit lens both shattered upon contact with the concrete floor. Shocking amount of damage, really. I guess the old gear made of metal can stand up to a lot more bumps and knocks. Anyway, he immediately got a new d3100 (I guess it was time).

I was in Montreal and dropped my Canon G12 onto the concrete sidewalk from about waist height.

I swear, what I heard can only be described as the sound of whatever it was that hit the back of Joe Pesci's head in the movie "Casino" when they buried him in that field, and the very first thought that went through my head was that I would have to find a Canon dealer somewhere around the Vieux Port to buy another, because I was certain there would be no way it would work after that drop.

I decided to find a pub, get a pint, and run the G12 through its paces so I could see exactly what was no longer working. Much to my amazement, the camera worked perfectly. Functionally, there was not a single issue with the camera, in any mode.

Well, duh, big surprise.

They will probably build digital cameras of that quality in 10-20 years again. When its worthwhile.

But right now, the progress of camera quality is so enormous that its very pointless to build cameras like that. You'll buy a new one every 2-4 years, anyway, because technology just has progressed so much since the last body.

within the 1st week of owning my d3000, I accidentally pulled the neck strap and it fell on tile floor from the surface of my computer desk.
IT SUCKED.
But all that ended up being damaged was my on camera flash,
which WHO CARES. haha am I right? I'll take my sb800 any day.

it scared me half to death at first though.
not that this camera body was a huge investment, but I do hate to think of any damage to a camera. blegh!!

I dropped a D300s (not mine...!). It hit the concrete and bounced and there was a scratch in the metal body but it still works perfectly.

I dropped my 7D off my cheap tripod. Never again using a cheap tripod. My next purchase was a manfrotto tripod. It survived the fall pretty well. It bounced and I caught it lol. One small scratch on edge.

Dropped my SLT-A55 with a Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 onto gravel ... it was hanging from strap on my shoulder.
It went lens down right onto large gravel ... luckily I had the lens hood on it, so it took the brunt.
The plastic end is a little jagged ... another reason to use Lens Hoods.

My old Canon newF-1 took a beating. It had dents all over it ... the body took many a fall onto rock (usually Canadian Shield rock). It had a big dent right on top of the prism head ... no shifting of the prism occurred after that one. Even left it out in the rain ... I just had to clean some contacts and resolder a corroded wire to get it working again. I even pounded a nail with it once (not sure why I did that ... must have been the beers, not the same beer that made me leave it in the rain ... that was different beer).

I dropped my 18-105 kit lens and shattered the aperture, that had to be replaced (thanks insurance).

Ive had small falls with the D90 and D7000 but nothing that resulted in them breaking.

I think plastic is under rated.

I was at the Anime convention, and my camera slightly slip out of my hands. The good thing is I caught it immediately. I wish my camera is slipped proof such as having the whole body covers with rubber or leather grip.

My 7D somehow came unconnected from the 70-200 that was attached to my Blackrapid via the tripod ring, and it crashed onto concrete 3 feet below. Only gave me an Error 20 when I tried to turn it on, so I missed out on shooting an amazing football game and had to send it to Canon for repairs. Took 10 days total before I had it back in my hands, and they did it for free. <3 Canon repair.

Dropped my camera packing and had to sent it in to be fixed. The lens mount on both lens and camera were damaged.

I think my a350+vertical grip was dropped by my son once onto linoleum off the kitchen table .... i think my wife said something along those lines a while back. No damage.
