Have Americans Taken Photography to a Whole New Level

I was taking photos of down below our apartments, on a horse trail. Some kids were walking the trail (apx. 7-10 years old). I was stopped on the trail taking photos and they stopped where I stopped and started playing, and were getting in my way. So I told them politely to please move on. (I will admit, I am tall, and on the heavy side, so they were probably scared of me a little) but since they were in my way there were two photos that they were in. They went and told their mom and she called the police on me for child pornography. (I am 18, and they were fully clothed, plus I was there first.)

The question is, did she over react?

Let me make sure I'm reading this right... You were out in an open, public place. A couple (fully clothed) kids happened to get in a couple of your shots... And that's somehow porn? Child porn even?

And yes, OP. From your account of the story, she overreacted. You didn't do anything illegal. However, there are two sides to the story and I am sure she has the other one. It would be interesting to get her take.

Back when I stayed home to take care of my son on certain weekdays (while mom worked), I got a similar reaction at the playground with my camera. They didn't realize that I was there with my son. Fortunately, most had a cool head and didn't call the police.

Personally, I would have dared them to call the police. Yes... she over-reacted.

I was once stopped at a national trust site by a woman who said she felt "uncomfortable" with me having my camera around her small children.
As it was a P&S that was turned off, dangling from my wrist I politely told her that if I was making her uncomfortable she should take her children somewhere else.

She mumbled something offensive and walked off.


I thought that was an over-reaction. Yours wins hands down though
