Have kids lost their own identify nowadays ?

This morning I setup my telescope and camera for the first time in oboomonths to take a few snapshots of the moon for the first time on my FF camera - btw, it works perfectly for the moon perfectly fitting in the frame. I just have to get my technique and setup back because it's been too long.

But some kids came down the street and one asked to come over (that was polite). But then he introduced himself to me by his twitter/fb or something alias. WT? huh then he used his real first name.

have kids nowadays lost their base identity. Are people now known by an alias, or I guess a derivative of a "nickname"
A nickname is one thing, but when it contains numbers it's just plain odd.

It's worse than Prince being known as a symbol.

Curious if people know of other kids like this ??

That's very odd. Never experienced this in regular life, though I've done some car forum meets where people introduce themselves by their username, but that makes sense. Much if I met one of you guys, I'd tell you that I'm Minicoop1985, then tell you my name, since minicoop1985 is what most of you know me as anyway. But just walking around and saying yo dawg, I'm 1998stunnaz33 on twitter FOLLOW ME YO seems really, really odd to me.

I wonder if a time will come when they will name their kids with those type of identities ??

imagine that ... get your Birth Certificate and Online Identity ... for life .. if it's available.

Maybe they are identifying with the "brand" that THEY, THEMSELVES have created??? Not the name that their parents decided they should have, but the name, the handle, the "brand" that they chose, of their own free will. Maybe that's a better way of looking at it, astroNikon.

im totally annoyed with my kids. From when they are born I call them #1, #2 etc. etc.
They now have all reverted back to their actual names and get upset when I call them that. Especially #2.

Eh its just like a nick-name; kids (and adults) have had them for decades; its just in the online world you have to get really creative because, all the common ones are already taken

I remember the first time I saw somebody with his gold "bling" nickname hung on a chain around his neck. I couldn't stop looking at it. Then at his GF, then back to the bling, then...you know.. back to the GF, and on until we left the restaurant.

I guess it's what you choose to identify yourself with. For instance, people in my area of whom I've never met know me for the hat(s) I wear, that I am a photographer, and for the various things/people I've worked for/with. If some people choose to identify themselves with their online persona.... well more power to them.
