HDR Issues

So I am working on Day 2 of HDR attempts in CS2, and I have been overexposing and underexposing pictures by 2 or three stops. They merge together perfectly, but I cannot seem to get the cartoonish look in my photos that I see in others. (i.e. woodsac) Now this technique does eliminate a lack of detail in my photographs, especially in the shadows so it is working. But I am really working on attempting to get a cartoonish picture for a photo assignment. My pictures are coming out too realistically. Any tips?

It might be easier with Photomatix:
