Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
A picture of a good friend taken at the end of a long day. As an aside, I really need a lens hood...

i suspect that is a hill, notice the man is standing straight up

it does need some work in the upper right corner, sun flare ?
did you have the hood on

what is that in the center in the shadows

Thanks for looking guys. I unfortunately don't own a lens hood or any post processing software. The photo was shot at around 10,000 ft in the mountains of Colorado so my friend is actually walking down a very steep incline. What you are seeing in the shadows is actually one our hunting dogs. If I had photoshop I suppose I could have removed the dog and the sun flare which ultimately would have probably improved the photo. I was still pleased enough with it to frame and give to him for Christmas last year.

This is one of those "what if" shots. So close!

might have improved the photo. But it would nolonger be the shot you took or the shot he was in.

It's not perfect, but I really like it! Personally when I take photos I try not to edit too much in PS. I'll mess with the contrast/saturation some and straighten if it is really out of alignment (and change to B&W if I think that suits the photo better) but don't like removing/adding things/objects to make the picture appear to be "perfect". I thinks that one of the reasons I can go out for a quick day hike and come home with over 500 photos in my camera - I figure I'll be lucky to get a few really good shots that don't require any editing. I'm still learning and hope to have the # of good shots increase with practice. I'm not saying that individuals shouldn't use PS to edit photos, it's available and should be used. I just personally prefer photos that haven't had a ton of stuff added or taken out.

Try Gimp. It's free.

The dog is a major distraction.

Also I think you just have too much in the shot that isn't contributing.

And I think the color is a distraction.

Here's my take...

$018-4.webp

Now that most of us can agree that the shot is good as is, we can officially start to put our own spin on it right?

I tried to brighten up the dog, but from just working with a jpeg, there is no hope, its too dark. So the next best thing, in my opinion is to take it out.

I do like the black and white from Manaheim.

My Edit 1- $018-4-2.webp

your #3 does it for me

Of the three edits I like Parkers edit 2 best. That solidifies the fact I need to get a program though.

many of us came from computers to cameras so the post processing part of photography was natural but I've been a s/w developer for 35 years and still do very little to my pics on the computer, I have a 1min rule. If it takes more than a minute i toss it.

Start w/ something like Picasso, to get used to the concepts, and then look at Lightroom.
