Heavy lens

I bought the 70-200 f/2.8 usm IS for my 5d Mark 2 Ive never had a lens this heavy is there any risk to damaging the lens mount I know the 5D is quite Hardy any help would be welcome.

If there is a tripod mount on the lens, then use that when mounting on a tripod. Otherwise as long as your tripod doesn't tip over done worry about it.

Nah, you'll be fine. The mounts are fine, and whilst it might seem heavy it's nothing compared to a 300 or 400!

This lens is of a size where you'll be supporting the lens with your left hand when you shoot for certain and you'll be needing to use the supplied tripod collar for balance as well. However its a larger lens, but not so large as to be too much of a danger to the lens mount on the camera. Provided you don't go hitting the lens on things when using it the mount should be fine (even on lower end bodies like the 400D rebel the mount is fine) .
