Hi guys! My name is Erik, but I go by Dia(Dye-ah, for those whose internal voice isn't sure, lol). I currently live in Thailand, and have for almost a year now. I hail from Tampa, Florida, but wanted to get out and travel the world, so I ended up here to teach English. So far, I've had a blast, but lately, I've felt as though my life was sort of in a lull, with no real hobbies to speak of other than drinking way too much and spending way too much time with my girl. So... I got a bunch of money from my family for my birthday and Christmas, and decided to invest in the hobby I've wanted to pursue for years now.
Photography. I've always been partial to Canon, so I did a little research, and went out and bought myself a Canon 700D(T5i), and have been loving it. I bought it about a week ago, and have just really been fiddling around with the settings and messing about to see what does what, as well as watching a tutorial or video here and there, and I've been lurking here for a few days, so I decided I would sign up. I'm here to learn more about photography and to make myself a better photographer. I'm fond of nature and close ups, but the real reason I bought the camera is so I can try to capture the essence of the places that I travel to. I want some staged photography, but I want more of that day-to-day feel of what the locals do. I've got some, but I've got a long way to go before I can call myself any good.
Anywho... I hope to stick around and learn quite a bit. My rig is a Canon 700D with a 18-55 lens. So far, it seems to be pretty practical and does a good job of what I want it to...
Here are some of the pictures I've taken in the last week... That scorpion was in the bathroom when I went to go earlier... LOL had to grab some shots of that.
