Help a Beginner?

I'm interested in pursuing photography and possibly starting up my own business later on down the road if I get good at it. I have no clue where to start though!

I have never owned a DSLR camera before and everyone tells me to either go with a Canon or Nikon. I've been eyeballing the Canon® EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55 mm IS Digital SLR Camera Kit. I have no idea whether or not this is a good camera since I don't quite understand all the specs. The camera goes for about $800 and I'm wondering if it's worth the money?

• shoots full HD movies
• digital SLR
• 3.0'' LCD
• 18.0 MP

I have no idea what kinds of lenses or memory cards to buy with this? Please help me out!

My suggestion is to go to a camera store, tell them what you have to spend, let them show you what's is your price range, touch and hold them all, write down the model numbers you like, go home, compare them on dpreview, do some research and then decide.

Hmmm. Another photographer recommended the Canon 50d or 60d as well...I don't want to spend more than $1500 for a beginner camera. What are your thoughts on those 2 camera's?

The 40D is as good as the 50D but will be cheaper!

Does it have to be Canon? Nikon make some great entry level cameras either D7000 high end or a D3100 would be great first DSLRs!

I suggest you follow Keith's advice and read that thread if you're considering starting a business before even touching an SLR.

As far as camera's are concerned, you pretty much get what you pay for when buying new. The field is competitive, particularly among Canon and Nikon. You can get better bang for your buck with other brands like Pentax or Sony. You're money will probably be better spent on a quality lens(es) as they don't quickly lose value like the bodies do. The best thing you can do is read, read, read. dpreview.com is a great place to start.

I'd suggest taking a class in Photography,a part time course will get you started and used to the functions of an Slr.and abit of practise handling slr's
