Help. Elinchrom BXRI with Photek Softlighter problems.

Does anyone here have experience with mounting a Elinchrom bxri with a The Photek Softlighter?

Here are the challenges I am running across...

The Photek Softlighter has an 8mm shaft that connects to a removable 7mm handle. Now, as an umbrella, this works fine because the 7mm fits well inside the BXRI umbrella hole. But what I am trying to accomplish is having the actual sock fit over the actual BXRI like this picture below.

SOFTLIGHTER II

It seems that the distance is too far for this to happen. This could be something really simple that I am missing. I'm fairly new to all of this. Any help would be appreciated.
