A friend of mine has asked me to do a family picture for them. I've never really taken pictures of people before, mostly just landscapes and buildings, as I don't have to communicate with them to tell them what to do! Right now it's the dead of winter and like -20/-30 outside, but they want to do an outdoor photo. They have two boys, 15 and 18. Any tips on a. doing the outdoor portraits (I tried a bit yesterday but the light was a bit hard with the faces) in the cold and winter, and b. how do I arrange a mom, dad, and two big boys in a photo? I've studied a few photographers works but most of those are young children doing something like sitting on mom and dad's laps. Tips and ideas? I'm hoping it will be a nice warm day on saturday, for the comfort of myself and the family, plus i'm going rabbit hunting with the son afterwards!
