Help!? How was this photo shot and edited?

Anyway, unfortunately the OP lost interest and didn´t even read the replies :(.

Just curious...What are you basing that on? The "last seen" info? I believe if the OP returned to the site without signing in he/she could read the replies and not have it register that they were here. Of course that is all assumption on my part.

Interesting to read that this was the thread that prompted that other poster to rant about forum people? Really? This? The snarkometer barely budged for this thread.
Yes, don't need tlo be logged on to read them. I frequently do that when I know I'm not going to post anything.

I think that one was b***hing about everything - this may have been the last thread he read.

Here is my try: It´s an animated gif, I hope it works on all devices.
I left the background half white half black to demonstrate that it doesn´t have an effect on the image. If you have a smaller room than I do (approx 3,5m to the background), you´d better use black, or go outdoors at night.
  1. I took a piece of wood, drilled a hole in.
  2. Then I took a stainless steel rod of the same diameter as the drill and hammered it into the wood. You can use other things too of course, I just had that available.
  3. Bought an apple - wasn´t too happy with the options - no stalk, several stains, but hey that´s nature!!!
  4. Put the apple on the steel rod
  5. used sugared water (as much sugar as would dissolve in the water) for the drops. I need to admit I was in a hurry and didn´t take much care as to where exactly place the drops. The left side is pretty perfect, the right would need some improvement. Glycerin works better though, but there isn´t too much difference.
  6. Placed the flash on top
  7. Took the images
  8. Not much work in post, the background was black already - just added some saturation, contrast and clarity.

I don´t like the unmodified light straight out of the flash, so I added an example of a light modifyer and created the animated gif to show the fine, but important difference, especially in the highlights of the drops.
One of the most important things of course is the position of the flash - bring it further towards the camera and you´ll get a less contrasty apple and light the front of the apple much more prominent.

Hey Sharon, maybe I´m a little too strict, but where I grew up we used to thank people that helped us, or at least reappeared and talked to them. I feel that just asking a question and never ever return again rather disrespectful. We invested our time into our answers. However, I hope others will learn something from it.

In regard to the rant: seems like I missed it :D.

Yes, I totally agree. Not thanking those who answer questions or offer c&c is rude. It doesn't happen as often on this forum as on some others that I belong to. Some people seem to think that when your online you don't need to have any manners.
