Is the D3100 good for pictures a night? I noticed you mentioned something about low light.

yes, in the price range, I think the D3100 has the best low light performance. I mean it's not an earth shattering difference or anything though.

The cannon 50D is a little out of my price range. I am thinking I like the D3000 or D3100 - I dont care much about videos so I am not sure what the big difference between them is aside from that.

Go for the D3100 at a minimum. You don't want the D3000.

I've heard that February is the best time to buy cameras because they are usually trying to get "older" models out to replace with the new models in March. Anyone know if this is true?

Jme_cay - My Dad told me that. But no one had mentioned it and say there isn't a good/bad time to buy a camera.
