Help Me With this Set-Up

I have a picture in mind, but not sure how to set it up. I want a thin slice of fruit standing up, with my OCF positioned behind it. What would be the best way to hold the fruit in a vertical position, without whatever is holding it being seen?
I plan to slice the fruit very thin, so anything used behind it would show as a shadow because of the flash from the rear.

I'd appreciate your suggestions.

Rotate the entire shoot 90°, and lay the thin slice on clean glass.

I would suspend it by inserting a couple of thin pieces of wire into the centre-edge and then just clone them out in post.
