Help!! Need less expensive repair

So the shutter on my Canon 20D is kaput. I sent it into Canon for repair because, well, what else would I do? Their original estimate was $195.
I paid it. Then they came back with a revised estimate of $603 bcause they say that my shutter count (73,700) exceeds the shutter life.

I can't pay that right now. Anybody know where I can get this repaired for less than that? Or where I can find the instructions to do it myself?
Does a shutter really cost 400? That's nuts!!

I hope you are smart enough to buy a new body before you drop $600 on a repair if you can't find cheaper service.
