Help on Nikon Lens!

Hello everyone..

My friend just bought the Nikkon 50mm 1.4 (not the G-series ) lens based on my recomendation for a portrait lens. He bought it brand new as a gift for his wife.

I just recieved a call from him saying that the lens wont work unless the apture is 16! I asked him to remove the lens and reinstall but with no success. Any other apture will show an error on the screen. They have got the D80 and it is working properly on the kit lens and a macro lens.

As I use Canon I couldn't help much, but I think it is a manufacturing error. Any help from Nikon users is much appriciated.

I'll guess he is getting the fEE error code, since you don't mention the code.

For non-G lenses, he has to push the lock lever (it has an orange L on it) on the lens aperture ring to lock the aperture ring at the smallest aperture, just like it mentions in his camera users manual for the fEE error code, and in the lens users manual.

Tell him to put the lens to F22 (orange in color) then there is a switch (little slider) slide down to orange mark and it should work in Auto and other settings.

Thank you for you help. I just called them and he said that the max apture is 16 and it is orange and they can lock it on 16. But when he unlocks it it will move down to 1.4 but wont lock on anyother apture! any ideas? ( it is the D series not the G)
