Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Since this is where all questions are asked, I placed this thread here. If it needs to be moved, mod's feel free to do so.

I am upgrading to LR3 and CS5 this morning. I downloaded LR3, but now I have both LR2 and LR3 on my computer. What is the best way to uninstall the LR2 program? Should I just delete it?

My LR2 catalogs are on my iMac hard drive, but my actual image files are on my WD external HD.

Hmm... maybe I don't need help. I just deleted the program from the applications folder, but left the catalogs in tact. When I installed LR3 it asked me if I wanted to update the catalog, and I clicked yes. Looks like everything is in place. NICE!

lightroom 3 is awesome im still trying to learn cs5

I started self teaching on CS4 and have found I LOVE CS5 so much!! Haven't tried Lightroom is it really that helpful or just another add-on that really doesn't do much but organize?

Your CS5 has the same edit rendering engine Lightroom 3 has - ACR 6.x.

CS5 also includes Bridge, an image browser used to organize image folders. Lightroom is image database management software that if used properly (keywording) can retrieve images from the database faster than a browser like Bridge can retrieve images from a set of folders.

Ok so basically a faster way to organize and sort photos then but not really too much of anything else. I'm just starting out and one of my Hubby's friends (photographer for the navy) says that Lightroom is better than photoshop I couldn't see how other than the organizational properties and from what I read it didn't do much else. Thanks again!

A lot of people that have Photoshop CS(x) have never bothered to learn how to use Camera Raw, the same editor in Lightroom. I would also venture that a lot of people don't know how to use Bridge effectively either.

Image ingestion into Lightroom, if done properly (keywording, rating, etc), takes a fair amount of work. Keywording is very useful for using Bridge too, and people are generally more familiar with how to use a browser, than how to manage and use a database.

People hit the forums all the time because they moved some files improperly using Lightroom and can no longer access them.

Ok. Yeah I shoot RAW in most of my images since I got the Canon. Loving it! I do minor color tweaks (if needed) in the camera software and then hit up photoshop for my smaller fixes or what have you.

Why bother? It takes to long. With Lightroom, I import my photos, categorize them, edit them, and export them much MUCH quicker than I can in CS5. I dont have to open three programs to see all of my images (Bridge, ACR, CS), they are all just there in Lightroom. And Lightroom is a non-destructive to my images. I only go into CS5 if I need to seriously 'fix' something, (i.e. heavy skin smoothing, or using content aware) otherwise Lightroom does everything, only faster.
