Help with finding a simple camera.

Maybe this is blasphemy on a photography enthusiast's forum, but I hope you can help.

I am looking for a simple no-nonsense camera, similar to the iphone camera. What I really liked about the iPhone camera was simply the speed it took a shot, and the surprising quality it ended up as. My experience with simple cameras until now is they take a while to focus, and I just want a camera that can take shots right in the moment. Preferably small. But if there is a name for this type of camera, or a particular specification I need to look for, that would be great to hear.

Oh you are to lucky! My new iPhone takes crap photos, it's probably just me. Everyyyyyy once in awhile I get a good one, but the lighting has to be perfect!

More compact definetly, smaller than a P&S would also be preferable. Pocketable like a phone.
I am not really looking for dazzling quality. Just good enough for it not to be blurry, and i was quite impressed by those of the iPhone's (not a photography enthusiast.)

But the main priority is speed in taking photos. I would really like to have one that can just snap a picture in the moment, without taking a second or so to autofocus, i am not bothered about zoom features. Is that simply a setting on normal P&S cameras, or a specific feature of some P&S cameras?

I don't own an iPhone, just my experience with my friends' iphones! I am not really a photography enthusiast, just a simpleton just looking for a simple camera to take photos of everyday life

While P&S cameras are getting quicker at shooting, they still all do need a bit of time to snap a shot. Keep in mind the sensor is busy providing the preview on the rear LCD screen, then when you press the shutter button down, it needs to use the sensor to focus, then thes sensor has to be cleared and the exposure taken and saved. All in the space of a few seconds.

Older P&S models with optical viewfinders might have been quicker to shoot at the time because the sensor wasn't busy doing something else. But they are rare today, and hardly any have an optical viewfinder.

As for simplicity, just leave the camera on Auto or Program, let it do everything for you. New models are quite capable in most instances.
