That can indeed make a difference, but you also need to consider the DOF that you are using. In this case, with an aperture of F5 and I'd guess a distance of 10 feet or more, the ever-so-slight change in camera angle shouldn't put your subject out of focus because the DOF should be a couple feet think at least.
It would make a much bigger difference, if you were shooting at F1.4 and only two feet away from your subject.
So I don't think that the focus & recompose is the problem here.
Yes, he was at least 10ft away from me.
Perhaps the problem is that I suck and I'm just a lost cause? Haha.
