Help With Food Photography

Hi There,
I am a year 12 student currently studying Visual Arts Design. My first project for the year is underway, and I have chosen to investigate how photography is used in packaging. At this stage, I am probably leaning more towards food photography. My initial research will hopefully include several pages of introduction into Food Photography, before actually getting into applying it to packaging.
I have spent all night searching the internet for tutorials on Food Styling, and Food Lighting, and what camera settings to use for the actual photos and what to do post photo shoot etc, and have made very little progress. If anyone here can point me in the right direction, either by giving me some beginners tips on food photography or actually elaborately spelling out step by step how to approach food photography, it would be much appreciated.

While the Internet is an amazing source of information, you can spend a lot of time roaming around it finding unorganized snippets on the subject you are interested in.
Books, have all those snippets organized into one place.
