Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hey all--

I downloaded the ICC Profile via the Epson site for some Epson paper I was printing on (Matte something...forget the name. BTW, the paper sucks!). Anyway, I'm new to this whole ICC thing but I did the download, then clicked install, then the whole thing disappared as if installed successfully. Looked simple. However, when I went to print, I chose the proper settings dialogue box for my Epson printer, but when I went to actually select the paper (for which I just downloaded and, I thought, installed the ICC profile for), the specific paper did not appear in the drop down list. Uh, am I missing something here? :(

Thanks for any help----

The ICC profile is used by your image editing software so you can soft-proof the photo before printing.

Probably going to need more info, like OS and software being used. Just going by your user name, I'm going to assume Mac... Which I haven't used since the 80's, so I probably can't help you.

Oops! Yup, using a 24 inch iMac with latest OS (Snow Leopard, version 6.6, I think). Using an Epson 2880 and Photoshop Elements. As I said, I think I correctly installed the ICC profile, but I was expecting when I went back in to Elements and printed, the specific paper would now be an option in the printer settings dialogue. However, it never appeared......maybe I needed to do a restart????

Maybe. Maybe not... It certainly won't mess anything up.

I use Linux (Ubuntu - 10.10), and it's fairly simple with that. Install/create color profile, go to System > Preferences > Color Profiles. Select the appropriate profile, and there you go. No idea how to do it on a Mac though.

You can try restarting, but I don't think that's the problem...

There should be some kind of interface somewhere on your computer where you can select color profiles though. Maybe it was installed properly, but you just didn't 'tell the computer to start using it'...?
There could also be the same thing in the software menus. For me, I can tell it to apply it system wide or not, all users or just me...

In Mac OS X:

If you have admin privileges, copy the file into /Library/ColorSync/Profiles
If you don't have admin privileges, copy the file into /Users/<username>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

Your software should have a proofing menu that will then search for all color profiles installed into Mac OS and allow you to select it. You can view details by using the ColorSync utility in the Applications/Utilities folder.
