Help with off camera flash

I have a Canon XSi with an ST-E2 transmitter, a 580EX II set to slave mode, and an AB800 which for the time being is firing optically (radio triggers are on the way). The camera is set to manual mode, but I am unable to set the 580 to manual flash when it's a slave. If I turn the slave setting off, I can set it to manual flash, but as soon as I make it a slave again, it goes back to E-TTL. Is that normal? Is it not possible to use manual flash when the flash is a slave? That doesn't seem right...

It seems your camera has met some wrong. usually when you make it to slave mode it's won't go back to any other mode. You may get more help information from this post,
