Hi there!

I just wanted to say hi. I'm just about to dive into the world of DSLR photography and let my wallet hate me even harder. Besides photography, I'm a researcher (PhD in social sciences) and a software engineer (mainly python nowadays).

My GF is into horseback riding and friends of her, so I'll be starting to practice horse photography soon. And myself I'm more into lightbox macro work. I'm into keyboards and other hardware, so I'm gonna build my own lightbox and see how that'll turn out.

Any tips for a newbie would be highly appreciated! Last time I touched a camera it was a Nikon D70.

Any tips for a newbie would be highly appreciated!

All sorts of tips can be found here and a lot of them can lighten your wallet even quicker than you think so my first tip is get better by learning and not buy anything (outside of your first DSLR and lens) until you have developed enough skill/experience to know what is limiting you.

G.A.S. IS a terrible affliction.. I'm also into keyboards (geekhack), audio (have studio monitors, and a kawai cn-35 piano), cooking besides other things.

I hope photography is also going to be a relaxing endeavor. Being outside in the moment.
