High Contrast B&W Portrait Help

Hello Forum,
I'm currently working with a Cannon Rebel and want to try some high contrast portrait photography that will show the weathered look of a persons face ( ex: sunspots, wrinkles, ect.). Any filter or technique to get this affect with my DSLR? IR pass filters? High contrast filters? Thanks everyone, looking forward to your comments.

This is about lighting, before the shutter fires not after. Start with research about using light.

Thanks for the reply. I know great lighting techniques will give me the contrast, but I was looking for a way to show damage not visable to the naked eye. I've seen photos that show what long term exposure to sun and other elements will do to your skin, usually done with a side by side of a "normal" photo.

you might try some IR work then, as it can show damage under the skin, but then again the correct lighting angle is needed here as well.

Remember that the harder the quality of light, the more details it will tend to show. Soft light quality tends to hide details in portraiture.

Also in post-processing, boosting the clarity of the picture will show more detail to the skin, showing wrinkles. Most people do the opposite to the skin to make the person look better.
