The D40 makes excellent 16x20's without interpolation if the images are properly exposed. You don't need 300dpi on a 16x20 because, honestly, you can't SEE a 16x20 with your nose only an inch from the print... at normal distances on normal walls, they look fantastic at 150dpi (assuming the picture is good to start with).

150 dpi is newspaper quality. 300 dpi is considered photo quality. 6 megapixels will give you 300 dpi at about a size of 6.5 inches by 10 inches. Large fine art prints and product photography can go beyond this from 1200 dpi to 8,000 dpi.

Bottom line is that photo quality prints (300 dpi and higher) require more than 6 megapixel cameras if you are going beyond 8 by 10 inch enlargements.
