Should I take Yearbook or 2-D Studio art?

2-D Studio:

"The purpose of this course it to enable students to communicate ideas and concepts through advanced two- and three-dimensional design and composition, and develop an appreciation of exemplars in varied cultures and historical periods."


Yearbook:

"The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental imagery, process, and techniques. This course will be coded as Creative Photography I."

So much will depend upon your goals. Have you thought of what those goals might be?

As of now my goals are quite general. In terms of Yearbook I am interested in becoming the first male editor at our school and in terms of 2-D Studio I really just want to better myself as a photographer, I really think that the drawing and painting would help me. Everything has its own unique set of pros and cons...I just need to figure out which one suits me better.

Yes, you do. Drawing and any of the hand-applied graphic arts may help, but so may an art history class.

Yearbook photography, depending upon what is emphasized, can be mainly journalistic photography, or at least that is my impression of it. With the yearbook, you may have to depend on the critical ability of the faculty advisor to offer critiques and artistic advice.

Does your school have a photographic club? Or perhaps one in the community? I think that is where you will get the kind of critical help you need to progress.

I would take an extra study hall or recess!

Better yet, a music class.

Quality of teacher might be a consideration.

You could still be a contributing photographer/artist to the yearbook.
